Step-by-step: Removal of Gel Polish
IMPORTANT ABOUT REMOVAL
There are different methods to remove nail products. Some types of products can be dissolved in an acetone-based liquid, while others must be filed off. At The Gel Collection, we have developed all our products so that they can be removed with Fast Acetone Remover. This ensures a gentle removal method – regardless of which product is used. Nevertheless, it is important to be gentle and follow our instructions to ensure a successful removal.
It is extremely important to take care of your natural nails when removing nail products. Never scrape hard on either the product or the nails, and never file down to the natural nail. Additionally, never force a product off by pulling, pushing, or scraping hard. When the product is being scraped off, it should be dissolved enough to easily slide off with a rosewood stick. If this is not the case, repeat the soak-off process. The most common cause of thin and damaged nails is incorrect removal. The ingredients and composition of the nail products themselves cannot cause nail damage – it's the removal process that is the cause. Therefore, it is essential to ensure gentle and proper removal – every single time.
The best way to ensure that you remove the product without damaging your natural nails is to follow our guide and use our step-by-step instructions. If you have any doubts, please don't hesitate to contact us for advice.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO REMOVING GEL POLISH
1) File off Top Coat and part of the Gel Polish color
When removing Gel Polish, it's necessary to at least remove the entire Top Coat. The reason is that the Top Coat is designed to be so strong that even acetone-based removal liquids have difficulty penetrating it. The Top Coat can be filed off with the 100-grit side of a 100/180 grit file or an electric nail file. If you are using an electric nail file, you can use a bit with grit yellow (extra fine) or red (fine). Alternatively, you can use a sanding band with grit 100-180.
For an even easier removal and faster dissolution, it's also recommended to file off about half of the Gel Polish color. This will make it easier for the liquid to dissolve the product entirely, resulting in a quicker, easier, and gentler removal.
2) Apply Soak Off Wraps with Fast Acetone Remover
After the Top Coat and part of the color has been filed down, apply Soak Off Wraps. Make sure to pour plenty of Fast Acetone Remover – enough to almost drip. Squeeze the very wet Soak Off Wraps tightly around your fingers to prevent the liquid from evaporating. Let it work for about 10 minutes.
3) Add warmth with a warm towel
If you want to ensure an even more effective dissolution, you can wrap your hand in a warm towel (the towel can, for example, have been lying on a warm radiator for five minutes beforehand). The warmth will help the Fast Acetone Remover work even more efficiently.
4) Gently scrape off the dissolved product
After about 10 minutes, you can remove one Soak Off Wrap at a time and gently scrape off the dissolved product with a rosewood stick. If you unwrap all your fingers at once, the product may harden again during the process – so remember to unwrap one finger at a time. It is crucial that you never force the product off. It should be dissolved enough to be scraped off with a gentle touch. Harsh nail techniques can cause damage to the natural nail, which should, of course, be avoided.
