In General

Can you use the products if you are pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is a personal choice whether you want to use gel products from The Gel Collection before, during and after pregnancy. According to the EU Cosmetics Regulation, all cosmetic products must undergo a comprehensive safety assessment by an independent external party before they are launched on the market. This assessment includes i.a. an in-depth analysis where target groups such as children and pregnant women are also taken into account. All our products have of course gone through these thorough external safety assessments, which conclude that there are no comments regarding special target groups, such as pregnant women.

There is also no official recommendation from the authorities regarding the use of UV curing products. The Danish Health Authority has published general guidelines to promote healthy habits before, during and after pregnancy, available on their website (www.sst.dk). In these guidelines, the Environmental Protection Agency generally recommends that pregnant women limit the use of cosmetics, creams and perfumes as much as possible (version 8, 2022), with the message: "The less chemistry, the better.

It is therefore a personal choice, and we recommend that pregnant women listen to their bodies and choose what they feel most comfortable with.

Please note that all UV-curing gel products are different, and the recommendations may differ depending on the product and brand.

Can children under the age of 18 use gel products?

At Neglefeber, we put safety first, especially when it comes to children and young people. Although our gel products have been tested and assessed as safe in external safety assessments, we still do not recommend the use of UV curing gel products for children under 18 years of age. Here's why:

1) Durability and damage to the nail:
Children's and young people's nails are often thinner and softer compared to adults', which can result in poorer durability of the gel product. This is because their nails are more flexible, which increases the likelihood that the product will begin to lift off the nail. Children's active lifestyles also means that their hands and nails are often exposed to greater stress, which can also increase the risk that the gel product will not last. Additionally, it can be difficult for children to resist the temptation to pick at the gel product if it starts to lift, which can cause damage to their already thin nail plate. Children and young people's nails are also more sensitive to all kinds of handling, which means that removing gel products, even when done gently, can lead to damage to the nail.

2) Increased risk of allergies:
Children's skin is more sensitive than adults', which increases the risk of allergic reactions, such as exposure allergy or contact dermatitis. This increased sensitivity is due to children's skin barrier being less developed, which makes them more susceptible to irritations and allergens. It is therefore essential to exercise caution to avoid potential allergic reactions.

3) Psychological Impact:
The introduction of gel products to a child's beauty routine can create a heightened awareness of the appearance of their nails. This can in some cases lead to children becoming more cautious and possibly choosing to avoid certain activities that could risk damaging their nails. Furthermore, it can create a social dynamic where nail care becomes a status symbol or a subject of jealousy among peers. Such situations can affect the child's self-esteem and social well-being, underscoring the importance, as parents, of considering the wider psychological effects of introducing beauty routines at a young age.

What is a Security Assessment?
The EU Cosmetics Regulation requires that all cosmetic products undergo a thorough safety assessment before launch. This assessment includes, among other things, an analysis of the products' chemical and physical properties, potential harmful effects, and the consumer's exposure. In addition, special consideration is also given to target group, application area and exposure. Is the target group e.g. children, pregnant women or people with special needs, emphasis is placed on the product being safe for the specific target group. Although all gel products on Neglefeber.dk have gone through thorough external safety assessments, which show that they are safe to use for all target groups, we still do not recommend use for children under 18, based on the aforementioned reasons.

Can I damage my nails by using the products?

The short answer is no, it is not harmful to use UV curing nail products as such. What can cause damage to the nail is improper removal of the product, which can damage your natural nail. For example, you should never try to remove the product by scratching your natural nail. We recommend that you follow our video guides and theory book to remove the product correctly and gently so that you do not damage your natural nails.

Should I take a break from the products so that the nail can get oxygen?

You don't need to take breaks from our products. The nails are not alive and do not need oxygen. However, it is important that you take off your products correctly so that you do not damage the nail. In addition, it is important to apply nail oil as often as possible.

How long must the products cure under the UV lamp?

All our products must cure for 60 seconds using our Dual LED Flash UV lamp. Our products have been tested in this lamp, ensuring complete curing within the specified time of 60 seconds. You can therefore be confident that the product is properly cured after this recommended time.

We recommend only using our products with the Dual LED Flash UV lamp.

Can you mix normal air drying nail polish with UV curing products?

You should never use normal air drying nail polish UNDER a UV curing product. The reason is that it takes approx. 24 hours for regular nail polish to dry completely. Gel Polish (including Top Coat) dries in 60 sec. and when the gel dries it is like plastic. So what you do when you encapsulate regular nail polish in a UV product is that you 'trap' moisture under the top coat at your nails. This can both cause the Top Coat to fall off, but also in the worst case trigger e.g. mushroom.

However, you can easily use normal nail polish on top of your Top Coat when it has fully hardened. It is done like this:

1) Buff the surface of your Top Coat No Wipe to create a roughness.
2) Clean off dust with Cleaner+
3) Apply your normal nail polish and let air dry
4) Enjoy your nails

Remember that the nail polish must not be removed with nail polish remover containing acetone, as this can affect the underlying gel product. Make sure to file it off instead or use an acetone-free remover and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

How do I remove UV curing products?

All products from The Gel Collection can be easily removed by dissolving with our Fast Acetone Remover. We have developed an easily soluble formula to ensure a gentle removal method, regardless of which product you use.

When it comes to Gel Polish, it is often necessary to remove the product every 2-3 times. week. It is also necessary if you want to change color or experience lift in the product.

Builder Gel and Polygel do not actually need to be removed. The nails consist of dead skin cells and do not need oxygen. It is therefore always recommended to fill up Builder Gel and Polygel instead of removing them. If you still want to remove all Builder Gel or Polygel, as mentioned, they can be dissolved in Fast Acetone Remover. However, it requires that you have filed off 80-90% of the product before starting the soak-off process.

To learn more about how removal is done, see our step by-step guide in the theory book or watch our video guides in the learning universe.

Can I use a UV lamp from another brand?

We do not recommend the use of UV lamps from other brands in combination with our products. The reason is that UV curing products, including ours, require specific conditions regarding UV light, which varies in both wattage and wavelengths (nm). Using a UV lamp that does not meet these specifications may lead to insufficient curing. This can not only reduce the shelf life of the product, but also increase the risk of allergic reactions. To ensure optimal performance and safety, we therefore only recommend using our own UV lamps. These have been carefully developed to be compatible with our products, guaranteeing optimal performance and safety.

Can I mix products across brands?

We do not recommend mixing nail care products from different brands. Our products are specifically designed to work together, based on a carefully matched chemical composition to ensure optimal performance and durability. Combining products from different brands can lead to compatibility issues, potentially reducing product durability and effectiveness. Also, it may result in insufficient curing in the UV lamp, as different products may require specific UV specifications, such as wattage and wavelengths measured in nanometers (nm). Using an incompatible UV lamp may result in incomplete curing, which increases the risk of allergic reactions and reduces product shelf life.

What should I buy if I want to strengthen my natural nails?

If you would like to strengthen your own natural nails, you can use Polygel, which provides a very effective reinforcement.

You can also simply use our Hard Base Coat if you are just looking for a light reinforcement. Our special formula on our Hard Base Coat provides extra hardness and reinforcement, so that even thin nail types can achieve long durability.
