Step-by-step: Removal of Soft Gel Press-On Tips
QUICK AND IMPORTANT ABOUT REMOVAL
There are different ways to remove nail products. Some types of products can be dissolved in an acetone-based liquid, while others must be filed off. At The Gel Collection, we have developed all our products so that they can be removed with Fast Acetone Remover. This ensures a gentle removal method—regardless of which product you use. However, it is essential to be mindful of being gentle and following our instructions to ensure a successful removal.
It is crucial to take care of your natural nails when removing nail products. You should never scrape hard on the product or the nail, and you should never file down into the natural nail. Additionally, never force a product off by pulling, pushing, or scraping it too hard. When scraping the product off, it should be dissolved enough that it can easily be pushed off with a rosewood stick. If this is not the case, repeat the soak-off process. The most common cause of thin and damaged nails is improper removal. The ingredients and composition of the nail products themselves cannot cause nail damage—it's the removal process that causes it. Therefore, it's extremely important that removal is done gently and correctly—every single time.
The best way to ensure that you remove without damaging your natural nail is to watch our guide on removal and follow our step-by-step guide. If you are in any doubt, do not hesitate to contact us for advice.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FOR REMOVING SOFT GEL PRESS ON TIPS
1) File off the Top Coat, Gel Polish color, and approximately 50% of the tip
When removing Soft Gel Press On Tips from The Gel Collection, it is necessary to first file off all the Gel Polish color and approximately 50% of the tip. This can be done using the 100 side of a 100/180 grit file or with an electric nail file. When using an electric nail file, you can use a bit with red (fine) or blue (medium) grit. Alternatively, use a sanding band with grit between 100-180.
2) Apply Soak Off Wraps with Fast Acetone Remover
After the Top Coat and parts of the color have been filed down, apply Soak Off Wraps. Be sure to pour plenty of Fast Acetone Remover—enough that they are almost dripping. Press the wet Soak Off Wraps firmly around your fingers so that the liquid does not evaporate. Let it work for about 10 minutes.
3) Add warmth with a warm towel
To ensure even more effective dissolution, place your hand in a warm towel (the towel can be placed on a warm radiator five minutes beforehand). The warmth will give the Fast Acetone Remover an even better chance to work effectively.
4) Gently scrape off the dissolved product
After about 10 minutes, remove one Soak Off Wrap at a time and gently scrape off the dissolved product with a rosewood stick. If you unwrap all the fingers at once, the product may harden again in the meantime—so remember to take one finger at a time. It's very important not to force the product off at any point. It should be dissolved enough to be scraped off with a light touch. Rough nail techniques can cause damage to the natural nail, which should be avoided.
5) Remove the last residue
Small residues of the product can be carefully filed off with a 100/180 grit buffer, 220/240 grit file, or you can repeat the process with Fast Acetone Remover.
6) Finish with cuticle oil
Wash your hands and apply cuticle oil. Apply the oil both at the cuticle and under the nail. You can read more about daily nail care here.
FACT:
It is normal for nails to feel very soft immediately after removal. However, there is no need to worry. As oxygen returns to the nail's keratin cells, they will quickly become hard and strong again, usually within 24 hours.
