The wattage myth: Why 48W tells you nothing
Many lamps advertise "48W" or "72W" — but wattage measures power consumption, not curing ability. What decides whether your gel cures properly is the wavelength (gel products cure at 365 + 405 nanometres) and even light distribution across all five nails. A well-designed lamp with lower wattage cures better than a poorly constructed "72W" lamp.
What to look for
- Dual wavelength (365 + 405 nm) — so every gel type cures through.
- Even LED distribution — diodes all the way around, so your thumb cures too.
- Timer programs — 60 seconds is standard; a low-heat program is gold if you experience heat spikes with thicker layers.
- Size — your whole hand should rest flat and relaxed.
