Step-by-step: Reinforcement with Polygel

A BRIEF ABOUT POLYGEL

Polygel is a UV-cured gel that has a relatively thick and firm consistency, somewhat similar to soft modeling clay. The advantage of Polygel is that it doesn’t flow away from where it has been placed, allowing plenty of time to shape the nail perfectly without the product running.

Polygel does not need to be removed. In practice, it can remain on the nails for months without any issue. Since nails are not living, they do not require air as long as you ensure regular nail care with cuticle oil. Instead, Polygel should be filled approximately every 3 weeks to maintain balance and keep nails strong and healthy. Learn more about fills here.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO STRENGTHENING WITH POLYGEL

1) Prepare your brush
Prepare your brush by pouring some Cleaner+ into a Dappen Dish and dipping the bristles into the liquid. Then, lightly dry the brush on a Lint-Free Wipe so it isn’t fully soaked.

2) Perform an effective prep
See the correct method in the step-by-step prep guide on our blog.

3) Apply Base Coat and cure for 60 seconds
Rub the Base Coat into the nail with a pressing motion. The nail should only be covered with a very thin layer. Seal the free edge as well. After curing, there will be a sticky layer, which is normal and necessary.

4) Strengthen the nail with Polygel and cure for 60 seconds
It is important to create the correct structure with an apex and strength points for durability. Polygel is best shaped using a brush moistened with Cleaner+. Dip the brush into Cleaner+ regularly and dab the product gently into place.

To secure the form, use the Flash Cure program (10 seconds) on the UV lamp to flash-cure the structure.

Fully cure for 60 seconds after building all five nails.

5) Wipe off the sticky layer with Cleaner+
Use a Lint-Free Wipe and Cleaner+ to remove the sticky layer.

6) Shape the nail to perfect the build
Use a 100/180 grit file or an electric file to perfect the nail shape. Be careful not to overfile the lower arch or free edge to avoid removing the product’s seal.

7) Remove dust with a Lint-Free Wipe and Cleaner+
Wipe off any dust with a Lint-Free Wipe and Cleaner+.

If you don't want to apply Gel Polish over your Polygel, you can skip directly to Step 10.

8) Apply the first coat of Gel Polish and cure for 60 seconds
Apply very thin layers to avoid wrinkles or uneven color.

Mix the Gel Polish before use by turning the bottle upside down and rolling it between your hands.

1. Dip the brush into the bottle, and wipe off most of the polish.

2. Place the brush in the middle of the nail and push the polish toward the cuticle without touching it.

3. Apply Gel Polish to the tip of the nail.

4. Cure for 60 seconds in the UV lamp.

9) Apply a second coat of Gel Polish and cure for 60 seconds

10) Apply Top Coat and cure for 60 seconds
Apply Top Coat in the same manner as Gel Polish. This is a "No Wipe" Top Coat, so there is no need to clean it with Cleaner+ after curing.

11) Finish with cuticle oil
Wash your hands, and apply cuticle oil to the cuticles and under the nails.
