Ask "which gel polish is best?" and you will get a hundred answers — most from someone trying to sell you theirs. Here instead are the 7 criteria you can hold any brand up against, wherever you shop.
The 7 criteria
- Documented HEMA-free. HEMA and di-HEMA are among the most frequent causes of contact reactions with gel nails. Check that the brand documents their absence — not just writes "gentle". (All our products are 100% free from HEMA, di-HEMA and TPO.)
- Open ingredient list. Serious brands show the full INCI list for every product. If you cannot find it, move on.
- Real durability. Good gel polish lasts 2-3 weeks without peeling — with proper prep. Read reviews from people who have worn it for weeks, not days.
- Consistency and pigment. A good colour covers in two coats and is self-levelling. Thin, watery gels need three or four coats — and peel more.
- The system works as a whole. Base, colour, top and lamp tested together is what gives the long-lasting result. Mixing brands is the hidden cause of many "bad" experiences.
- Guides and support. When something goes wrong, a clear guide — or a customer service team that actually answers — is the difference between success and giving up.
- Honest reviews. Look for brands with many verified reviews over a long period — not ten five-star ratings from last week.
Expensive does not mean good
